A powerful and haunting work, Afghanistan: Requiem for a Generation returns to Calgary for the first time since its highly acclaimed 2012 premiere, commemorating the end of Canada’s combat mission in Afghanistan. With texts by Suzanne Steele, Canada’s first War Poet, and music by Jeffrey Ryan, the work chronicles and pays tribute to the lives torn apart and brought together by war.
Rune Bergmann conducts the Calgary Philharmonic , Calgary Philharmonic Chorus, Cantaré Children's Choir, and soloists Erin Wall, Rebecca Hass, Benjamin Butterfield, and Tyler Duncan. Ms. Wall also performs Strauss' Vier Letzte Lieder on this program.
